Byrne the hero as Bohs win Dublin Derby against Rovers to progress

Matches between Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers are always special, and especially when it’s a cup quarter-final. Getting one up on your bitter rivals makes it so much sweeter, and that’s exactly what happened when Bohemians took the extra-time victory as they won 1-0 in the Under 17 League at Tallaght Stadium.

For Mitchell Byrne it was even more special, as it was his goal that won the match and sent his side into the semi-finals, where they will meet Waterford after this mornings draw.

Byrne told us, “It was a tight enough game a bit scrappy, but you can always expect that in a quarter final and especially in a Dublin derby where neither team want to lose.”

“We got them on the back foot from our high pressing and created a good few chances from it.”

As for the goal itself he said, “My goal came from a corner, it was a great delivery I just had the desire to get up and get my head on it really and just tried to direct it into the corner and thankfully it went in.”

“I was absolutely buzzing with the win. The lads work so hard week in week out I think we deserved that win, it’s even better that it’s over Rovers in a quarter final, which makes it that bit more special.”

“We’re looking forward to the semi-finals now and just to get back into training during the week and work hard.”
