Not to be for Cobh’s Under 19’s as season ends with defeat to St Pats

Cobh Ramblers season at Under 19 Level cane to an end today after they were beaten 1-0 by visitors St Patrick’s Athletic in the quarter-finals of the U-19 SSE Airtricity League.

A goal from Michael Cretan in the first half was enough for St Pats to progress.

Speaking to Cobh manager Declan Coleman after the game he felt the better team won on the day, “Yeah, it’s a very disappointing end to the season. It's a bit harsh that it has come to an abrupt end. We didn't deserve to progress though on today's performance and St Pat's deserved to be in the semi final. We wish them all the best.”

As for the season as a whole for Cobh Coleman said, “Overall however, it has been a good season for us in which we showed the quality we have. We finished as Southern Division Champions which shows how good a season we had. Unfortunately on the day today we didn't perform as well as we can. Pat's were more aggressive than us and were very well organised. Neither team created many chances but credit to them they got the decisive goal and worked relentlessly to keep hold of what they had.”

“We will just have to learn from the disappointment and build on the progress we have made this season and bring what we've learned in to next season.”

With the season now over he wanted to say a special word of thanks to his coaching staff and players, “I'd like to thank the players and the club for their efforts this season and I'd also like to reserve some praise for my coaching staff, especially my assistant manager Kieran O'Connell. We've had a good run this season and now just have to to regroup for next season. We'll take a couple of days off first and then start putting plans in place.”
