Patterson says Derry are looking to catch Shamrock Rovers for third spot

Derry City won the North-West Derby over Finn Harps 3-0 and in the process left Ollie Horgan’s men in the brink of relegation, while at the same time putting themselves to within one point of European football for 2018.

Two goals from striker Rory Patterson plus one from Republic of Ireland Under 21 International Ronan Curtis moves the Candystripes two points behind Shamrock Rovers, with a game in hand, as they try to secure a third-placed finish.

Two-goal Hero Patterson said, “I thought we were in control from the start. We scored the goals at good times when they  might’ve thought they were getting back into it. It was great to get another clean sheet.”

“We were delighted also to see another couple of youngsters making their debuts (midfielder Evan Tweed and striker Sean McBride).

On his goals Patterson said, “It was good to get 2 goals, after great work from Ronan Curtis and Ben Doherty to set me up, they did all the hard work. The point we need now gets us Europe but we want to catch Rovers for 3rd.”
