St Patrick’s Athletic’s Under 19’s face a trip south on Sunday to Cobh to take on local side Cobh Ramblers in the quarter-finals of the Under 19 League. With last year’s winners UCD participating in this season’s UEFA Youth League both sides know the importance of the game.
Cobh, winners of the Southern Division which included UCD, have home advantage over a St Pats side who, having finished 4th in the Northern Division, are a dangerous opposition. They have good wins over strong sides like Dundalk and Bohs, but slipped-up to Longford at home.
St Pats manager Garrett Dodrill knows his side face a very tough challenge but says they’re looking forward to testing themselves, “Yes is going to be a tough game alright. Cobh is never an easy place to go to.”
“We have watched them a couple of times this season and they are a very good side. Obviously I’d like to congratulate them on winning their section. They will be going into the game on a high with local support and officials so it's a tough ask. They have a number of very good players and a few will probably drop down from first team to play aswell.”
“We have been far too inconsistent this season and at this stage of the season players are playing matches with Fas/ college/ schools etc so it's difficult to get any momentum going in training and we have a number of players carrying injuries.”
“Hopefully we can rise to the challenge on Sunday and the players show what they are capable of on the day.”
