St Pats move on in the Under 19 league

St Patrick’s Athletic had a 1-0 win over Southern Division Champions Cobh Ramblers in St Colman’s Park to move into the semi-finals of the Under 19 league. After this morning’s draw St Pats will have a home draw against the holders UCD.

A goal from Michael Cregan after 25 minutes gave Garrett Dodrill’s men a great victory.

Dodrill was thrilled after the game, “Yeah we’re delighted with the win. Cobh are an excellent side and easy to see why they won their section.”

“We started the game very well and should have scored early on when a great move up the left hand side put Cian Hughes in on goal but his effort from close range was straight at their keeper. We had a few chances from corners and their keeper made two world class saves from close range headers.”

“We eventually took the lead on 25 minutes after a great run and cross up the right by Callum Keane allowed Mick Cregan (pictured) tap in at the front post. We had a few other chances before half-time that we didn't take.”

“In the second half Cobh had a bit more of the ball but we defended very well with Ciaran Kelly and Luke McNally defending superbly at times. Jamie Lennon was magnificent in midfield alongside Luke Heeney and Sean Quinn and bar a few set pieces Cobh didn't create much.”

Dodrill also had some nice words for Cobh after the game, “We go into the semi final now where we need to perform again. Would also like say a big thanks to Cobh for their hospitality on the day.”
