Shelbourne today announced that they’ve signed central midfielder Gavin Boyne for next season, after he decided to return to Tolka Park following a season in the midlands with Longford Town.
The 22 year-old met Shels manager Owen Heary yesterday to agree terms.
Boyne said he’s happy to return to the club again, “When leaving Shelbourne last season it was always in my mind that I'd love to play for them again. The fans, players and coaching staff were always so high spirited and I wanted to experience all that again.”
The midfielder played 19 times for Longford last season, actually scoring against Shelbourne in a 2-0 league cup win. He said, “I loved my time at Longford, made a good few appearances and I really enjoyed my time there.”
Did Heary have to do much convincing to get the youngster to sigh?, “To be honest Owen didn't have to convince me too much. We arranged to meet up and I had fully intended to sign back with Shelbourne because it is a fantastic club.”
His ambitions for the 2018 season, “In regards the up coming season, personal goals will be made for myself to achieve, and also team goals... promotion at the top of that list obviously,” which will be music to the ears of all Shels fans.
His signing brings the number of players Heary has signed for the coming season to 11.
