Bohemians match-winner Steven Nolan, whilst admitting afterwards that he can’t remember too much about his winning goal, told us it was a case of mission accomplished as far as winning the league title goes.
He said the team were supremely confident all season long and got what they deserved, “I thought overall the season went exactly as planned. We have a great group of players and staff and we really stuck together throughout the course of the season. We had set our expectations to win the league and it's a great feeling knowing we met our expectations.”
Graham Lawlor’s side lost only two league games all season, to Finn Harps and league final opponents St Pats, so confidence was always going to be high heading into the final in Dalymount on Wednesday evening.
He did however say that there was plenty of nerves around on the night, “The final itself started out a bit nervy I think, from me personally and from the team, but as the game grew so did our confidence and we started to take control.”
We asked him about the winning goal, but he struggled a big as he described it, “The winning goal is still a bit of a blur if I'm honest. All I can really remember was Cian Fay beating his man down the left, putting in a cross and as the ball came across to me I bet my marker to it and just focused on making a good connection, which I did thankfully.”
“I don't even remember the ball hitting the net! I just remember the celebrations afterwards.”
“But as I said, the whole season itself was a huge success on a personal and team level and there was no better feeling in the world than lifting the cup after the game.”
