Derry City will make an emotional return to the Brandywell Stadium on Friday night, as they host Dundalk, following a year away. During that time they also said farewell to their inspirational captain Ryan McBride in tragic circumstances.
After losing their opening two games to Waterford and Sligo Rovers, Kenny Shiels men got their first win last night after a Rónán Curtis goal gave them a 1-0 win over Bohemians last night at an extremely cold Dalymount Park.
The club today issued the following statement on their return;
It is with much pleasure that, weather permitting, Derry City Football Club returns to its spiritual home on Friday night.
The new facility has been many years in the planning and we are thrilled to welcome our own supporters and all involved with Dundalk FC to a rejuvenated Brandywell Stadium this weekend.
Much work has gone into the redevelopment programme and we have no doubt that our fans will treat the facility with the utmost respect. It is a venue of which the whole city can be proud.
In order to maximise the match-night experience the Board of Directors at Derry City would also ask those attending games to be very mindful of the needs of local residents.
There are many car parking spaces at Foyle Valley Railway and inside the stadium grounds itself. We would respectfully ask that patrons use these instead of parking along the Lone Moor Road and surrounding streets.
We are very much aware of the need for both the Emergency Services and local residents to be able to avail of this access and would therefore request that supporters avoid parking there.
As always we would ask everyone to follow the instructions of our club stewards so that the Brandywell can be a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.
