Bermingham looking forward as he agrees St Pats deal

St Patrick’s Athletic today announced that captain Ian Bermingham has re-signed with the club for 2018, along with midfielders Conan Byrne and Graham Kelly, while Ryan Brennan joined the club from Bray Wanderers.

However, for long-time supporters of the club the news that captain Bermingham will return for what will be a phenomenal 9th season will be the most pleasing.

Bermingham 28, spoke exclusively to us about his delight at getting the deal done following the announcement, “Yeah I’m delighted to get the deal done and get sorted for next season. The club have been good to me over the years and I’d like to think I’ve repaid them on the pitch over the years.”

While news of the St Pats 2018 squad had been slow in coming following many other clubs signing players over the past couple of weeks, it was thought manager Liam Buckley was struggling to tie players down, but Bermingham said he didn’t take too much convincing to remain at Richmond Park, “No not really, but it was important to me that the club are looking to get back up and challenge at the right end of the table and I’m confident we can do that now.”

St Pats will now hope to put the nightmare 2017 campaign behind them and move forward instead of looking over their shoulders, according to the captain. He said, “Yeah, it was a very disappointing season in 2017 and we have got to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We’ve got to be aiming for Europe again next season with only 10 teams in the league. It wont be easy with a lot of teams strengthening, but I’m sure Liam (Buckley) will put together a strong and exciting squad that can achieve that.”
