Lotefa on fire as Bohs reach the final

Following the clubs Under 19’s reaching the league final Bohemians Under 17’s also qualified for the SSE Airtricity league final, where they will face Cork City next Monday afternoon in Turners Cross.

Having been 2-0 down at half-time to Waterford in the RSC, Bohemians rebounded to score four times in half an hour to eventually run out 4-3 winners. Lido Lotefa (pictured above) scored two and assisted in another in a remarkable turnaround for Jimmy Mowlds side.

“Going down 2-0 in first half was heart-breaking especially watching the goals go in from far up the pitch, but it never broke us. We knew we would grab a goal because it was very much an open game.”

“At half-time we forgot the score and promised to leave everything on the pitch and show how bad we wanted it. And that’s exactly what we did, as soon as Waterford tipped off we just ran at them and pressured them from high up the pitch. We eventually grabbed a goal back after Sobe (Nwaokolo) fired one into the top left corner.”

Quarter-final hero Mitchell Byrne tweeted after the game;

“Doing that really had Waterford panicking as we were on them as soon as they touched the ball. Moments later I got a ball played to me over the top and I knew that I was on because the defender expected me to take it down but I just ran with the ball and lobbed the keeper from  around 18 yards out as we both raced to the ball.

“Literally 2-3 minutes later a similar ball was played to me behind the defenders and this time I got time to control it, then slotted it past the keeper to make it 3-2. At that stage you could see it was a crazy game. Then two minutes later we found ourselves on the break as both myself and David Opako found ourselves 2 v 1 against the isolated Waterford centre-back, and I simply played a through ball into David’s path and he slotted it home to make it 4-2.”

“It felt amazing after we scored that  because no one expected us to come back, especially against a side that have been unbeaten in the campaign all season. However, we battled it out until the final minutes. We celebrated well but we’re not getting too carried away as we have one more big push, and that’s to bring the cup back to Dublin next week.”
