18 year-old midfielder Jamie Hamilton has had a season to remember at Bohemians, culminating in Wednesday’s Under 19 league title victory.
In Monday’s final Hamilton was also named Man-of-the-Match as Graham Lawlor’s side beat St Patrick’s Athletic 1-0.
Hamilton said, “I was delighted to get the man of the match, as it was such a big game and to be noticed after your hard work all season is a great feeling, but it's a team game and I was just delighted to get the win.”
Were the team confident ahead of the final? “Yeah we go into every game confident. We set out at the start of the season to win the league and we were confident all year we could win it.”
We asked him how he felt when the whistle blew and he realised they were Champions, “It was a great feeling when the final whistle went, everything we worked for came together and it was like winning something with your family, so that made it even better.”
Hamilton was part of Keith Long’s senior squad for most of the season, making three league appearances and scoring his first senior goal on the last day of the season against Finn Harps. He said, “Yeah I'm very happy with how my season went, scoring my first senior goal was something I’ll never forget. When you achieve everything you set out for at the start, it makes all the hard work worth while.”
He can now enjoy the off-season but what does the future hold for him, “Going forward we'll have to wait and see, obviously I've another year at U-19 level and we'll be in Europe, but as usual you'd be looking to push on more and become a regular in the first team so we'll have to wait and see.”
As for his ambitions Hamilton said, “Ambitions going forward is the same as everyone since they were kids. Obviously I'd love to go across the water because that's what you work your whole life for, so hopefully that comes about, and in the mean time we go again and try win everything I can with the team.”
