Rovers boss Price delighted with Shield win

Shamrock Rovers Under 19 manager Aidan Price (pictured above) was delighted his side finished off the season with success in the Shield Competition, after beating a very good Derry City side in Tallaght Stadium at the weekend.

They won 1-0 but were made to fight all the way by Derry, who gave the home side plenty of scares along the way.

Price said, “Delighted to get the win on Saturday. I felt we started the game really well and created some good opportunities, but unfortunately our final pass or finish was letting us down.”

“Derry had a great chance just before half-time which would have been hard to take going in at the break, but young goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu made a wonderful save. The second half was a little tighter but we managed to score a really good team goal with Dean Dillon finishing it off.”

On goalscorer Dillon, who’s had a fantastic season Price said, “Dean has been superb over the last few years having joined us from Cherry Orchard.”

“Year on year he has developed and he’s playing the game with a great level of confidence. I feel he expresses himself in every game he goes out to play and his team-mates fully appreciate and enjoy playing with him every week, which is probably the highest compliment a player can ask for.”

“He's a young man with a determination to be the best he can be and that makes it a joy to work with him.”
