New Longford signing Evan Galvin can’t wait for the season to start

Evan Galvin this week joined Longford Town alongside Darren Meenan having played a key role with Cabinteely F.C in Stradbrook last season.

The young midfielder who notched up 21 league appearances under Pat Devlin last season has had his hard work rewarded with a deal at the City Calling stadium as Neale Fenn continues to build a squad that he will hope to have chasing promotion right from the off and Evan is delighted with the move.

He told us, “I’m just delighted to sign, and very happy to be sorted going into pre-season next week.”

The experience and knowledge that Neale Fenn brings to the table seems to be the crucial factor in the final decision with so many of the new signings at the club during the off season, and for Galvin it was no different. “I think anyone who watched or played against Longford after Neale got the job last year could see the impact that he has made. The style of play he likes to implement was the big attraction.”

“I met Neale a few times and found him to be very welcoming and I got a good feeling instantly that he’d be a great manager to play for and work with.”

In Evan’s case, his good friend and former Cabo team mate Daire Doyle who has been given the role of assistant manager alongside Neale Fenn for the coming season, was also in his mind when he decided to put pen to paper to join the midlands club.

Galvin said, “Along with Neale, Daire Doyle was also a big impact. I played with Daire last year and it was very easy to see how much ability he would have as a coach just from how he was with the lads and around training. From playing with him, I know Daire is also someone who wants to try and play ball which will suit me and how I like to play so both of the lads will make a great combination.”

This year there are a lot of big teams competing in the First Division and it is sure to be as competitive as ever in the push for promotion. Evan is confident himself and his team mates will be right in the mix throughout the season.

His own ambition for the season is to just get as much first team football and game time as possible for himself. “I think any team in the First Division needs to be trying to get up. It’s a tight league every year but I’m sure we’ll be in the mix with the players we have signed. We have plenty of good lads in the group.”

“I want to play in every game. I played in the first 19 games at Cabinteely last season and it was only towards the end of the season that I was left out a little bit but that’s football. I’m just going to enjoy it and take it one game at a time”

Longford get their season under way on the 24th of February with a home game against Cobh Ramblers.
