Walsh thrilled to be back home with Galway United

Stephen Walsh has signed up with Shane Keegan and Galway United for the League of Ireland First Division 2018 season.

The young defender has had a number of spells with Galway United having made his debut for the club in 2010.

Since then he has had stints with Mervue United, Athlone Town and most recently Longford Town all in between helping Galway United secure promotion to the Premier Division in 2014.

The 27-year-old Galway man has made 145 appearances for the Tribesmen in total over a number of different seasons up until now and in that time has scored seven goals. He will be hoping to earn a regular starting spot in Keegan’s side this season and is looking forward to the challenge laid down in his hometown for the upcoming season.

Stephen told us, “I’m delighted, Galway is a big club and I can’t wait to get going now, I had other offers but Galway is my home and home is where the heart is.”

As for the ambitions for the season, Walsh has his eyes firmly set on promotion and it seems to be the buzz word around Eamonn Deacy Park at the moment as the build-up for the new season continues. He said, “I think our goal will be promotion and nothing less. Everyone has strengthened their squad so it’s hard to know, we will just take every game as it comes.”

“The main goals for myself would be to stay injury free and keep as many clean sheets as possible.”

The signing of Walsh means that Keegan now has a total of thirteen players signed up for next season so far.
