Neale Fenn, who’s Longford Town team open their league campaign on Saturday with a home game against Cobh Ramblers, is gunning for promotion this season. After taking the reigns at the City Calling Stadium in the summer he’s had time to assess his squad, and also added some experience to his team in the off-season in the hope that it’s enough to mount a serious promotion challenge.

When speaking to us this week he said, “The club, the players and the supporters expectations is for us to be challenging for promotion, in a very competitive division, and I expect us to be in and around the promotion places when the season finishes.”

Was he looking forward to getting the campaign underway? “Yes we’re really looking forward to the start of the season. It’s a very difficult game against a very good Cobh Ramblers side to start us off, but pre-season has gone really well so we feel we're ready.”

“The players we have brought in during the off season have settled in well and got used to how we want things done and are all pushing for a start on Saturday.”

Bringing in experienced players like goalkeeper Michael Kelly, striker Chris Mulhall and title-winning winger Darren Meenan have boosted fans ambitions for the season ahead.

Fenn said, “Our squad as a whole is stronger than last years so we expect to finish higher than the 5th place we achieved last year.”

He has also named Dean Zamora as club captain saying, “Dean Zambra is the club captain. He has been at the club for a few years now and has the experience required to be our captain.”
