Wearen thrilled to be back after winning start

After an 18-month long wait midfielder Eoin Wearen made his first competitive start on Saturday night as Limerick made light of pundits early season predictions by taking my all three points in a 1-0 win over one of his former clubs Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.

In front of a big crowd of over 3,000 people Limerick were solid throughout, and defender Darren Dennehy’s headed goal was enough for Tommy Barrett’s side to claim the points.

Wearen 25, was understandable thrilled when speaking to us about the game, “Saturday night was a perfect start to the season. I felt we managed the game well and created the better chances in what was a fairly even game overall.”

“It felt brilliant to be back out there after missing the whole season last year and I believe the best is yet to come. I feel like I will get better game by game.”

He joined up with Limerick this season after spending four of the last five seasons at Bohemians and has settled in well. He said, “I’m really enjoying it so far at the club. Tommy and Willie have created a really positive environment and we have a really good dressing room full of good players and good people.”

As for many people’s predictions Wearen said, “We aren’t listening to what other people are saying. Sure Bohs have been tipped to struggle in my last couple of years at the club and have ended up pushing for Europe, so we believe we can have a good season if we can keep the core of the team fit. I believe we have a lot of quality in the group.”

Wearen and his new team-mates will next face a buoyant Bohemians side,  following their big Dublin Derby victory over Shamrock Rovers, at what should be a packed out Markets Field on Saturday evening. He’s really looking forward to facing his old club, “I can’t wait for the game next week now against Bohs. It will be a tough game, obviously both teams will be high on confidence going into the game, but we will be hoping to get another three points in front of what should be a great crowd at the markets field.”
