Wexford FC head to Stradbrook tonight to kick-off their season as Damian Locke and Pat Devlin’s charges will do battle in their opening game of what will surely be a fascinating First Division campaign

“Yeah, we’re really looking forward to the big kick off, it’s a long off season. Everyone in the group are in good spirits and excited for the Cabo game, said Locke.

Regarding new additions to the Wexford squad ahead of another First Division campaign Locke said, “We have added a few boys this year that give us plenty of options. Obviously getting our captain Chris Kenny back from Sligo is a big boost, and the likes of Shane Barnes and Owen Wall are two young lads that have done well previously at U-19  level.”

They’ve also managed to hold onto youth International striker Aaron Dobbs. The 19 year-old is hot property, he scored two goals for the Irish U-19’s recently, and his manager is pleased to have him back, “Getting Aaron back in for the full season will be an important signing I’m sure, but I feel there are plenty of goals in the team across the park this season, also a first LOI pre-season for Dean Kelly and Mikey Bryne should put them in good stead to push on from last year.

As for realistic ambitions for the season, “It is a goal to reach the play off spots but we will have to preform to the level we believe we can each week, and the boys know that’s what we want to achieve, but again we are quiet young so it interesting to see how the season develops.”
