Derry looking to put Friday’s misery behind them with a win in the new Brandywell

After a year away, and an unfortunate weather delay, Derry City finally return to the Brandywell to face Limerick on Monday night. It’s a welcome return, especially considering some poor results which culminated in a shocking 6-1 defeat to Shamrock Rovers on Friday evening.

It should be both a fantastic, and emotional night for most Derry supporters, after their captain fantastic Ryan McBride passed away during their spell away in Buncrana.

Manager Kenny Shiels spoke about the return to the Brandywell, “It's a huge occasion for the club and we're excited to be back. The players are raring to go after Friday night. I'd ask the Derry public to really enjoy Monday night and to see how we like to play. It's very important to me that we play with a bit of style and the players know that."

As for Friday’s game against Rovers in Tallaght Shiels said that they’ve draw a line under and they’re moving on, “We won't get too down on ourselves though. We need to do what Limerick themselves did recently and bounce back from a defeat like that."

"We watched the game over again yesterday and it was almost surreal. We were the better side for the first half hour but then lost a goal just before half time. After that their confidence was up and they're such a good side you could see how it lifted them. It's something we'll learn from."

One thing remains the same however, and that’s, but he didn’t want to dwell on it ahead of this massive night for the club. He said, “There is no change on the injury list unfortunately. We just need to grin and bear it.”

Derry are expecting a full house on Monday so if heading to the game get there early.
