2017 League of Ireland winner with Cork City, Stephen Dooley has today put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract with English League One side, Rochdale. Dooley, who was most recently on the books of Northern Irish Football League side Coleraine, returned to his home-town club following a league and cup double under John Caulfield last season.

Dooley's departure for Coleraine came as a surprise to many given Cork City's qualification for the Champions League this season but this move to English football will surely be viewed as a positive step forward for the pacey winger.

Twenty-six-year-old Dooley will link up with his team-mate from Turners Cross last season in Ryan Delaney at the "Dale".

Speaking to his new club's official website, Dooley commented: “It’s always been a dream of mine to play over in the English system, and Rochdale looks like a brilliant club, so I’m delighted to finally get the deal done.”

“I want to be one of those players that can excite the fans and get people off their seat.”

“All I can really promise is work rate and that I’ll give it my all, and hopefully it’s enough to do well.”

The deal is subject to EFL and International clearance.
