Shels looking to keep the run going

It’s second against third as the First Division promotion race hots up, when Shelbourne host Drogheda United at Tolka Park in Friday night.

Owen Heary’s side are on a fantastic 12-game unbeaten run in the league, but will be very wary of a Drogheda side reeling from last weekend’s 90th minute defeat to Finn Harps at home.

Shelbourne do have some injury concerns heading into the game, On the injury front, going into Friday’s game, with Arran Molloy, Lorcan Fitzgerald and Gavin Boyne all receiving treatment and will miss out, while Greg Moorhouse will be assessed closer to kick-off time.

After last week’s 1-1 draw against the leaders UCD Shelbourne captain Dean Delany was disappointed not to have won the game. He said, “We were disappointed we didn’t win. We had the better chances towards the end. Overall, possession-wise, they probably controlled most of the game, but we put our shift in as well and probably had the better chances overall in the game.”

He knows that his side are well in the hunt fur promotion, but they need to keep up their performance levels saying, “It keeps us in the loop, it’s just a matter of keeping it going in the last eight games. If we consistently play like that week in, week out, we’ll be up there.”

“We’re ten or eleven games unbeaten in the league and goal-wise, I think we’ve only conceded thirteen or fourteen. The stats are good but I think we’re also playing well, so that’s important.”

Talking ahead of Friday’s game Delany said, “They’re all big games at this stage. The run-in games are all finals because you’re in touching distance of winning. We just have to approach each game as it comes, no matter who we’re playing. We have to keep our heads on and keep playing consistently the way we are.”
